It Came from Another World!
Although viewers may be more familiar with John Carpenter's 1982 remake or the recent 2011 prequel also entitled "The Thing," the original 1951 film is still considered the cinematic blueprint for melding horror and science fiction. Both the 1951 and 1982 films are based on the novella "Who Goes There?" by American science fiction writer John W. Campbell first published in the August 1938 issues of Astounding Science Fiction magazine, of which Campbell also became editor.
